Whitmore Bay Surf Life Saving Club is running a Community First Aid Programme, leading to the Royal Life Saving Society ‘Life Support 3 Award’. The course is open to all members of the public, free* of charge, starting on February 6th 2008 and running for 5 weeks.
The course covers resuscitation and basic first aid. The course will be held at Barry Leisure Centre on Wednesdays, upstairs in the cafeteria, running from 7.45 to 9.00pm. Places are limited and will be allocated on a first come, first serve basis and available to anyone
over 16.
You will learn what to do in an emergency situation, including casualty assessment and the stages of resuscitation.
Casualty Assessment - This includes summoning help, rescue breathing as well as the sequence for resuscitation and stabilisation of an unconscious casualty.
Life support - The aim is learn basic first aid including the diagnosis and treatment of choking,
bleeding, shock, drowning and hypothermia.
